AUTUMN WINTER | 2006 - Embroidery heaven
"For the Winter of 2006, I designed for a woman that was unabashedly a lady. She didn't consider dressing down but instead wore her couture-embellished blazers and jackets with denim if wanting to be 'casual'. I remember designing this collection from the grandeur of Neemrana Palace, two hours out of Delhi. Holed up in the palace with my team of four, which included my American grande dame and ambassador extraordinaire, Ellen Carey, we developed a collection that embodied a sophistication which spoke to Opera patrons and surprisingly also to pop stars (Beyoncé purchased the jacket of Chinoiserie florals which had taken a month to embroider). This was a premium collection that was not for the financially faint-hearted."
SPRING SUMMER | 2007 - Guardian angels
"Before launching my collection in 1998, I was visiting my dearest friend Paul Barry in Italy. Together we designed my logo on a train as we travelled to the Amalfi coast for a night of disco fun. 10 years later he art directed this 2007 Summer shoot. We all have guardian angels and he is one of mine. He has understood my brand and has been my creative sounding board over the years and directing many of our campaigns. He directed Kate Moss for Rimmel, had Paul Weller as his muse for Jaeger, conceived the iconic snakes' campaign for Gucci. He brought poetry to this collection which was a whimsical exploration of print and embroidery."
