Textile treasures to the insanely talented

AUTUMN WINTER | 2005 - My textile treasure chest

"With each collection that I showcased in Paris, my travels would always include a few days spent in the flea markets scouring for textile treasures to inspire me. I have chests, wardrobes and drawers of antique textiles that I dip into each season. When I look back at collections I see nods of inspiration that have come from those drawers. Winter 2005 incorporated delicate silk ribbon embroideries inspired by the embellishment of a Victorian christening gown, hand crewel work florals on velvets that referenced a Moroccan curtain and hand fringed piano wraps of deco-inspired threadwork. The Home collection embraced the rich embroideries and palette of the season."

SPRING SUMMER | 2006 - Alison Moncrief

"I credit my design assistant Alison Moncrief for the beauty of this collection. Heavily pregnant with twins, I stood back for a season and let her fly. Unable to travel and sit on the embroidery frame as was otherwise the norm for me, Alison travelled to India to oversee the development of the collection from our initial sketches and gathered swatches of inspiration. I like to think I taught her well but in truth, she is just insanely talented."
